A Visit to Bagels & Schmear: Simple, Authentic, Unforgettable

New York is loud. Busy. Overwhelming at times. But then there are places like Bagels & Schmear. A tiny shop, tucked away, serving not just food, but a slice of comfort. In a city that moves fast, Bagels & Schmear reminds us to slow down. To savor.

Yes, they’re known for bagels. Yes, they’re known for schmear. But today, I discovered something different. Something wrapped.

The Wraps

They could’ve stuck to bagels, but they didn’t. Instead, they took the essence of what they do best—fresh, simple, authentic ingredients—and rolled them into something new.

The Supreme Tuna Wrap

It’s easy to mess up tuna. Too much mayo, not enough flavor. But Bagels & Schmear knows balance. The tuna salad is creamy without being heavy. Roasted peppers add a hint of smoke. Avocado? Always a good choice. Lettuce and tomato bring freshness. Wrapped in a whole wheat tortilla, it’s the kind of wrap that makes you feel good. Not too full, not too light. Just right.

The Chicken Chipotle Wrap

Spicy, but not overwhelming. The Cajun chicken has that perfect kick. Jack cheese, melted just enough to bind everything together. Avocado smooths it out. Lettuce and tomato add the crunch. It’s bold, it’s fresh, and it’s satisfying. The kind of wrap that makes you wonder why more places don’t do it this well.

The Tradition of Bagels & Schmear

Bagels & Schmear could’ve just been another bagel shop. But they’re not. They’re rooted in tradition. Hand-rolling. Boiling. Doing things the right way, not the fast way. You can taste it in everything they make. It’s about authenticity. About keeping it simple, and letting the ingredients speak for themselves.

That’s why this place matters. In a world of shortcuts and gimmicks, Bagels & Schmear is honest food. It’s real. And that’s rare.

Why You Must Try It

So why go here? Why take time out of your busy day for a wrap or a bagel? Because you deserve more than just food. You deserve an experience. The freshness, the care, the simplicity—it’s all here. This isn’t about being trendy. It’s about being timeless.

If you’re in New York, and you’re hungry, Bagels & Schmear is where you need to be. Not for the hype, but for the authenticity. The real deal.

Make It Yourself: The Chicken Chipotle Wrap

If you can’t make it to New York, don’t worry. You can bring a piece of Bagels & Schmear home with you. Here’s how.

Ingredients

  • 3-4 pieces boneless chicken breasts cooked and diced into small pieces

  • 1/2 head iceberg lettuce shredded finely

  • 2 pieces Roma tomatoes diced into small cubes

  • 8 ounces shredded cheese blend

  • 1 cup tortilla strips or crushed tortilla chips

  • 1/2 cup ranch dressing creamy

  • 1/2 cup chipotle sauce creamy

  • 8 large flour tortillas 10-inch size

Directions

  • Prepare Ingredients – Begin by grilling the chicken breasts until fully cooked and then chop them into bite-sized pieces. This should take about 10 minutes if using pre-cooked options like rotisserie chicken.
  • Assemble Wraps – Lay each tortilla flat on a clean surface. Layer with approximately half a cup of chopped chicken, followed by a quarter cup each of shredded lettuce and diced tomatoes. Sprinkle with cheese and top with tortilla strips for added crunch.
  • Add Sauces – Drizzle about a tablespoon each of ranch dressing and chipotle sauce over the fillings. Fold in the sides of the tortilla and roll it up tightly to form a burrito shape.
  • Cook Wraps – Heat a nonstick pan over medium heat and lightly coat with cooking spray. Place the wraps seam-side down on the pan and cook for about 1 minute on each side until golden brown and crispy.

Equipment

  • Chef’s Knife
  • Cutting Board
  • Nonstick Pan
  • Mixing Bowls

Notes

  • For an extra kick, add sliced jalapeños or a dash of hot sauce to the wraps before rolling them up. Serve these wraps with a side of fresh guacamole or salsa for a complete meal. You can also add black beans or corn for additional texture and flavor.
